About Acupuncture

Acupuncture originated in ancient China over 3,000 years ago.

Acupuncture is the oldest continually practiced and recorded health system in the world and is practiced worldwide today with some variations in technique. Traditional Chinese Medicine often combines acupuncture with herbs, diet modifications, massage (tui na), and qi gong exercises.

Classical Five Element Acupuncture is nature oriented and works with the natural vital energy (qi or ch‘i, pronounced "chee") inherent within all living things to remove any blocks and to promote the body’s ability to heal itself. Qi, or energy, flows along channels in our bodies called meridians that are like rivers and streams.

When the qi becomes depleted or blocked due to past lifestyle choices such as drug or alcohol abuse, early traumas, injuries, diet, relationships, and environmental factors such as weather exposure or toxins, distress signals in the forms of symptoms --often seemingly unrelated--warn that there is a problem. Left untreated, more serious conditions can arise.

A diagnosis is made based upon pulse taking, meridian and point sensitivity, medical history, and other signs and symptoms.

Specific acupuncture points are then selected to restore a balanced state of health and harmony on all levels of body, mind and spirit.
