Diagnosis and Treatments
Your first visit takes one and a half to two hours. It includes a confidential discussion of all of your personal concerns regarding your
current condition as well as a detailed health and personal history. A comprehensive physical examination may include examining
any physical issues, meridian, tongue, and pulse diagnosis as well as five element observations. Acupuncture may or may not be used
during this initial appointment. You will be listened to carefully since I believe you, the patient, are the most important part of the healing process.
Subsequent treatments last approximately one hour. You will be treated with promptness and great care during each appointment.
All needles are disposable, sterile, prepackaged and used only for you. I will use as few needles as possible and may supplement them
with other techniques including cupping, gua sha, applying heat to the point in the form of an herb called "moxa", and mild
electroacupuncture stimulation.
Since each of my patients is viewed as a unique individual, treatments are also designed specifically for each person. No one
experiences pain or illness in exactly the same way as you do. The goal of treatment will not be to "fix" the specific disorders but more to help you
to get back into balance and harmony. Once this is restored, your physical and emotional manifestations will either completely disappear
or become much more tolerable. You will once again experience life to its fullest.
While many conditions may be alleviated quickly by acupuncture, some conditions that have arisen over a course of many years will be
relieved only with slow, steady progress. Additionally, your job and personal life impact greatly upon how long you will need treatment before
experiencing results. In most cases, you will need to come for six to ten treatments to notice a shift. Treatments may be spaced as often
as once a week to once a month depending upon your individual progress.
Once in balance, many patients (including myself!) continue treatments once or twice a month or once a season to maintain their health
and healthy immune systems. By doing this, you will be much less likely to experience colds, flu, viruses and allergies. Also, your healing time
will be significantly reduced if you should be injured.
As in any form of healing, your attitude and willingness to participate in your healing process is primary and ultimately determines your
success.
